What is the Pet Food Distribution Program?
Rescue Bank® Pet Food Distribution Program supports the pet rescue community with a network of regional affiliates – pet food distribution centers. These centers receive truckload donations scheduled by Rescue Bank® and distribute pallet quantities to qualified groups. Our Pet Food Distribution Program allows rescue organizations to transfer part of their food budget to much needed services such as spay/neuter or other medical bills.
Who can apply?
Any 501(c)(3) pet rescue organization or community service organization engaged in pet retention.
What is needed for eligibility?
Minimum eligibility is a 501(c)(3) registered status of your organization. Your organization must also meet the standards set by Rescue Bank® based on the organization type. View our recipient Eligibility Guidelines.
Our goal is to support – as resources allow –those organizations that exhibit the highest standards of care and demonstrate their ability to make a difference.
How does it work?
- You first need to apply to become an eligible recipient. Once you are a pre-approved recipient, you will receive email notifications about the distribution events available in your region.
- If you would like to be included in a distribution event, you should reply to the notification by submitting a Request for Distribution.
- If you qualify to receive a distribution, you will be invited to the regional distribution center for the distribution event where you can come and pick up the food. You will be notified about when and where the distribution event will take place as well as the shipping costs that your organization will be required to reimburse the distribution center.
Are there any costs to the recipient organizations?
Yes, there may be. The pet food is donated – however, the cost to transport it to the affiliate distribution centers is not. Rescue Bank® arranges and pays for the transportation and then offsets a portion of our expenses by charging the affiliate distribution center a “handling fee” and the Affiliate may choose to pass this expense on to the recipients. All affiliates are charged the same fee regardless of the actual shipping charges and Rescue Bank® limits the amount that the affiliate can charge the recipient organizations. This “handling fee” for recipient organizations is subject to change but is generally limited to $.10 per pound.

You must apply online by completing the appropriate Recipient Application. Applications must be complete and are subject to approval.
